Man beaten at Baseball Tavern faces long recovery

BOSTON — A local man is on the long road to recovery after an incident at a Boston bar left him in a coma for several weeks.

FOX25 has been following this case since May, when 27-year-old Robbie McLaughlin was found bloody and unconscious outside Baseball Tavern, a bar near Fenway Park.

"Someone just came in and was like, ‘Robbie's… I think Robbie's dead,’” his brother Ryan McLaughlin said.

Robbie’s family told FOX25’s Kerry Kavanaugh he has come a long way through rehab since coming out of the coma, but they said there hasn’t been any progress on their case.

“I was basically like, there's a chance my brother’s dead right now. So everything that's come after that is like a miracle,” Ryan said.

Robbie can now walk on his own and even feed himself, although he is primarily on a feeding tube and that's how he receives his medication. He also has regained a limited ability to speak.

Ryan told FOX25 his brother and some friends were at the bar when there was an altercation. He said he believes someone attacked Robbie from behind as bouncers were removing him from the bar.

"I want them to feel ashamed of themselves. I want them to feel like cowards for the cowards that they are," Ryan said.

The bar would not comment on the incident Tuesday, but has previously maintained that whatever happened occurred outside their doors.

The family is grateful for Robbie’s recovery, but hopes anyone who witnessed the fight will come forward and contact the Boston Police Department.
