• Man attempts to rob ice cream stand with sawed-off shotgun


    CHICOPEE (FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) - A 29-year-old man was arrested in Chicopee on Monday afternoon after he allegedly attempted to rob an ice cream stand armed with a sawed-off shotgun.

    Julio Rosa is charged with possessing a firearm without a license, causing a disturbance while carrying a dangerous weapon, and attempting to commit a crime for the incident which was foiled by fast-acting patrons, reports masslive.com.

    Police said the incident occurred around 1 p.m. when a witness noticed the suspect hiding a weapon underneath his coat.  The witness intervened and told the suspect to "get lost."

    The suspect then proceeded across the street towards Roger's Place located at 1016 Chicopee St. and attempted to rob the ice cream stand, but while he was reaching for his gun, the witness grabbed the suspect's arms and prevented him from doing so, reports the website.

    Other patrons jumped on top of the suspect, grabbed the weapon, and held him down until police arrived.
