QUINCY, Mass. — A Braintree man has been arrested by police in Quincy after he was caught indecently exposing himself near an elementary school.

Officers responded to a 911 call from a home on Naragansett Road at around 2:30 p.m. on Friday, April 13 from a couple who said a man was standing in front of their house with his pants around his knees and his genitals exposed.

The couple who made the call live less than a third of a mile from the Marymount Elementary School. The incident reported by the couple happened around the time where children were being released from school - the couple's own children arriving home shortly after authorities had been notified.

Police arrested and charged James F. Canavan, 24, for open and gross lewdness on Tuesday and held him in jail after learning he had violated his probation on an earlier assault and battery charge.

According to police, they found Canavan still on  Naragansett Road when they arrived with his pants on. When they noticed he was wearing a GPS ankle monitor and no underwear, he was placed under arrest.

Canavan is due in court on May 4.
