Man arrested after multi-state police chase

DERRY, N.H. — A wild chase that crossed state lines went on for 30 miles Friday morning and now a Westborough, Massachusetts man is under arrest.

A couple says their children were standing in their driveway, and boarded a school bus, just minutes before a man stole their car, drove over their mailbox and sped off.

“Yeah we heard the sirens from 93 South and then witnessed a man running thru the woods up on to our street," Steve Niemaszyk said.

It all started around 8 a.m. on Elm Street in Manchester when police spotted 35-year-old Joseph Hart driving the stolen pickup truck on I-93 South.

As the chase crossed into Derry, police used spike strips to stop the truck. But officers say Hart ran off and found a car warming up in Niemaszyk's family’s driveway.

"A typical work, warming up the, going back in the house then I hear him yelling lock all the doors,” Elizabeth Niemaszyk said.

Police said hart took the couple’s car back into the highway before heading to Lawrence, Massachusetts where he abandoned the car and ran into an apartment building.

Police were able to us a K9 unit to track Hart and found him hiding in the building’s attic.

Hart is expected to be extradited to New Hampshire where he will face a long list of charges.
