Man arrested after carjacking, series of crashes

BURLINGTON, Mass. (AP) - State police say a Gloucester man has been arrested after several car crashes along 16 miles of busy freeway north of Boston, ending when he overturned an SUV he allegedly carjacked.

Police said 23-year-old Arthur Choate was involved in a crash on Interstate 95 in Peabody around 3:15 p.m. Friday. He allegedly then stole an SUV also involved in the crash, and collided with other vehicles as he traveled south. Police said he was arrested after he rolled the SUV near Burlington Mall. No injuries were reported. Police said seven vehicles were involved overall.

Police said Choate is held on charges of car theft and leaving the scene of a property damage accident. It's not known if he has a lawyer.

Two lanes of I-95 near the mall were closed for about an hour.
