Man arraigned from hospital bed for Brookline house fire

BROOKLINE, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) – A 29-year-old man was arraigned from his hospital bed Thursday morning for intentionally setting fire to a Brookline home, police said.

Steven J. McCann, of Jamaica Plain, is accused of setting fire to an unoccupied home at 71 Spooner Rd. on July 26.

Following the incident, police and fire officials conducted an investigation into the cause and determined the fire was intentionally set.

Police identified McCann as the suspect and issued a warrant for his arrest.

McCann, who is believed to have sustained injuries while setting the fire, is charged with arson of dwelling house, arson of dwelling house (unoccupied), and burning of a building to defraud insurer.
