Man arraigned for robbery and assault in Roxbury

BOSTON (MyFoxBoston.com) –- A man was arraigned in Roxbury District Court Monday for allegedly robbing and beating a woman in Roxbury two weeks ago.

Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley's said the attack happened Oct. 13 near a bank at the intersection of Washington and Roxbury streets.

James Keane is accused of pushed a woman to the ground, grabbed her head and slammed it against the sidewalk, and then stole the victim's iPad.

The woman was taken to Boston Medical Center where she told police that she had an argument with a man she knew inside the Walgreens on Washington Street. After she left the store, Keane followed her to the area where he attacked her, the district attorney's office said.

Based on surveillance video in the area, police made and distributed wanted posters for the man. A Boston police officer and Boston University Medical Center special officer both recognized Keane from the posters, and arrested him on Friday.

Keane admitted he was the man in the image, the District Attorney's office said, but denied assaulting the woman. He was arraigned on charges of armed robbery, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, and larceny over $250. A judge set Keane's bail for $5,000.
