Man and grandson hit by car in Worcester crosswalk

WORCESTER, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) -- A man carrying his 4-year-old grandson was hit by a car while crossing the street in Worcester Wednesday.

Investigators say Worcester police officers were flagged down on Providence Street at about 10:30 a.m. by several people who said a pedestrian was hit by a car near the Vernon Hill School.

Witnesses said the man and child were in the crosswalk when they were hit by a blue Taurus.

The 57-year-old man, who was bleeding from his head when police arrived, was transported to UMass Memorial Medical Center to be treated for what are considered non-life threatening injuries to his head and legs.

The boy was also taken to the hospital to be evaluated. He did not appear to be injured.

Investigators identified the driver in the incident as an 85-year-old woman from Worcester. She was also transported for further evaluation.

The incident remains under investigation by Worcester police.
