Man allegedly involved in home invasion held on $1M bail

BOSTON — Police have arrested a man they say committed the crime that ended with a deadly officer-involved shooting.

Prosecutors said police have been searching for Robert Williams since a grand jury indicted him in late March. The Boston police fugitive unit tracked him and Wednesday he was arraigned for his alleged role in a crime that turned deadly.

It’s been five months since Williams was implicated in a Dorchester home invasion, which led to a deadly officer involved shooting. On Devon Street in February, police said Williams and Peter Fanfan broke into a home. Police responded when there was a report of gunfire. Prosecutors said officers saw Fanfan helping a second man into a getaway car, and police said that was Williams.

There went on to be a shootout between Fanfan and police, said prosecutors. Fanfan was shot and killed.

Williams was in court late Wednesday afternoon facing multiple charges including armed home invasion and assault with a dangerous weapon.

"There may be an identification question. Also, he was not the shooter and he may have been innocent regarding that, but people at the jail could be seeking retribution against for something he may not be guilty of," said his attorney, Elliot Levine

He was ordered held on a $1 million cash bail.

The Suffolk county district attorney’s office says the investigation into Fanfan's shooting death remains open.
