Man allegedly did 'happy dance' after running over, beating animal

NORWOOD, Mass. — A Sharon Public School employee is charged with animal cruelty after police say he and a female passenger used their car to chase, kill, and mutilate a goose in Norwood.

“Maybe if he kills like this, he can kill anybody else,” said a witness.

The video she filmed is part of the evidence against Rory Marty.

The witness, who we are not naming, said she noticed a man and woman in a silver sedan driving fast toward two geese that were drinking from a puddle near Short Street in Norwood. She said at first, she thought the driver was just being a jerk, but then the car made a loop and came back to take another run at the geese.

According to the police report, "the vehicle stopped and paused and appeared to 'line up' the geese in order to hit them with the vehicle. The vehicle flashed its lights and then drove directly at the geese."

One goose appeared to be hit, and that's when the woman got out of the car, grabbed a stick, and started hitting it, said the police report, with the man shortly following.

Afterward, the witness said the couple did a "happy dance."

The witness called 911- and the license plate came back to Rory Marty, a Sharon Public School employee. When officers found him, police said he was wearing the same shirt as the one in the video.

Marty was charged with a motor vehicle offense, animal cruelty, and drug possession; he was carrying bits of Viagra pills in his pockets but had no prescription on him.

FOX25 reached out to Sharon Public Schools to ask what his role is at the school and whether he is facing disciplinary action but did not hear back.

He was released on personal recognizance and is due in court in June.
