Man allegedly carjacked by Peabody murder suspect says faith sustained him

MIDDLETON, Mass. — Prayer and faith helped a Middleton man while he was being held at knife point during a carjacking by an accused murderer.

"God gave me great peace, I am a believer in Jesus Christ," said Kenneth Metz.

Police said Peabody double murder suspect Wes Doughty carjacked Metz near Hailey's Restaurant and Pub on South Main Street in Middleton late Wednesday night.

Metz said that the man holding him hostage didn't hide who he was.

"He told me real early on," said Metz.

Doughty allegedly tied Metz up and then they began driving south toward Boston. Doughty is the second suspect allegedly connected to a double murder in Peabody, said police. The bodies of Mark Greenlaw, 37 and Jennifer O'Connor, 39, were found in the basement of a Farm Avenue home last Saturday night.

"He said he killed them to they gave heroin to his godfather...and he didn't want his godfather to be addicted to heroin," he said.

Metz said that Doughty didn't even know his way around Boston, so he couldn't imagine him getting very far.

Metz managed to escape the vehicle in Boston when Doughty went into a liquor store near Tremont Street.

Doughty is still at large and is considered armed and dangerous.
