Man accused of threatening woman with piece of steel out on bail

WOBURN, Mass. — A man accused of threatening a woman with a piece of steel during a road rage incident in a Winchester rotary is out on bail.

Scott Lawrence, of Dracut, appeared in court Wednesday for an assault with a dangerous weapon charge after the incident, which was seen by several witnesses.

The unidentified victim said it started when she laid on her horn when Lawrence allegedly cut her off.

"I was getting lunch around the corner and I heard someone leaning on the horn," Rich Shanahan said. "Not a beep, but leaning on the horn."

That's when the victim said Lawrence got out of his car with the piece of steel.

"He came out with something, I thought a club, in the back seat and then walked up to it by his side," Shanahan said. "He began to put it behind his back when he wasn't talking to the other individual."

Police reports say the two exchanged words, and Lawrence got back into his car.

"There was no shouting back and forth," Shanahan said.

She was not hurt.

Lawrence was stopped by Winchester police a few blocks away.

After his arraignment Wednesday, Boston 25 News read police reports where he admitted to threatening the woman in what he called a "stupid road rage incident."

He is due back in court in January for a pre-trial hearing.
