Man accused of breaking into house, painting dog purple

OAKS BLUFF, Mass. — A man was arrested after allegedly breaking into someone's home, painting their dog, and stealing a car.

On Saturday, officers went to Firehouse Lane for a report of a stolen car that ended with a crash. A few minutes later, Oak Bluffs police responded to a breaking and entering report. The victim told officers when they arrived home, they found a ground level window forced open. Several items were taken, and the victim's dog had been painted purple, said police.

Investigating officers spoke to a neighbor, who said earlier in the day a man had knocked on their door.  The neighbor provided a description of the man, noting the man looked disheveled.

Upon receiving this description, officers deemed Felix Reagan a suspect in both incidents. Reagan had been previously arrested on June 3 for several charges, including breaking and entering.

Officers began searching for Reagan and eventually found him near Webaqua Road and took him into custody. During a search, police said they found Reagan with prescription pills, a driver’s license and credit cards that were stolen from the victim of the Pinewood Lane house break-in. Reagan also had purple paint on his pants which was consistent with the paint that was found on the dog from the Pinewood Lane break-in, said police.

During the investigation, officers received two additional reports of break-ins of residences on Webaqua Road.

Reagan was charged with the following:

  • Breaking & Entering in the Daytime with the intent to commit a Felony
  • Larceny of a Motor Vehicle
  • Destruction of Property
  • Cruelty to Animals
  • Possession of a Class A Substance
  • Possession of a Class E Substance
  • Assault & Battery on a Police Officer, 2 counts (Reagan kicked an Oak Bluffs Police Officer on 2 occasions)

These incidents remain under investigation and more charges may be filed.
