BOSTON (MyFoxBoston.com) -- A Hyde Park man accused of assaulting a police officer was arrested Tuesday after Transit police claim they found him trying to avoid paying the fare at Ruggles Station by piggybacking behind a paying customer.
Transit officers were patrolling at the MBTA station when they say they witnessed 42-year-old Juan Garcia trying to sneak in behind another customer. They approached him with the intention of issuing a citation, but soon learned he had an arrest warrant out of West Roxbury for two counts of assault and battery on a police officer, resisting arrest, and furnishing a false name.
Arresting officers at Ruggles Station allege Garcia began to resist and a violent struggle ensued before they were able to take him into custody.
