Malden man indicted for spree of bank robberies

WOBURN, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) -- A Malden man was indicted Monday by a Middlesex County grand jury in connection for five bank robberies, according to Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan.

John Freni, 28, was indicted on five counts of unarmed robbery and five counts of intimidation to steal from a bank.

According to Ryan, Freni robbed five banks in September and October, two TD Bank locations and three Eastern Bank branches, all in different towns. Investigators found that he exhibited a similar pattern of behavior in the robberies, and wore similar clothing and accessories in each.

"I commend the efforts of the Billerica, Dracut, Everett, Tewksbury, and Wilmington police officers, who working together, followed the evidence, and identified this defendant," Ryan said in a statement.

In total, the District Attorney's office alleges that Freni stole more than $10,000.

He will be arraigned in Lowell Superior Court on Tuesday, Dec. 17.
