At around 12:30 a.m. on April 16, police responded to 196 Washington St. in Lynn, where 18-year-old Amoy Blake had been shot. He was taken to the hospital, where he died.
Police say that Blake, his best friend Jahleel Sanders Williams, and 15-year-old Kevin Sanchez were attempting to rob a 24-year-old man at gunpoint when that man pulled out his gun, which he was licensed to own, and shot Blake. Police called the shooting a case of self defense.
But because prosecutors say both both Sanders Williams and Sanchez were involved in planning and committing the felony of armed robbery when Black was killed, under Massachusetts law, even though they did not pull the trigger, they are criminally responsible for their friend's death.
Prosecutors asked that Sanchez, who has a violent assault charge on his juvenile record, be held without bail. He will appear in court again on May 14 for a probable cause hearing.
In court Thursday, Sanchez pleaded not guilty to the murder charge. Sanders Williams, 17, pleaded not guilty last Thursday to armed robbery and murder charges. He is being held without bail, according to the Lynn Item.
