Lynn man convicted of assaulting disabled man

SALEM, Mass. (AP) - A former worker at a Salem group home for developmentally disabled adults has been convicted of slapping and kicking a resident who refused to eat lunch.

Noah Martin of Lynn was given a suspended 18-month jail term, three years of probation and ordered to attend anger management classes after his conviction Thursday on charges of assault and battery on a disabled person and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, his foot.

Prosecutors say the 50-year-old Martin assaulted the victim in the dining room of the Turning Point home last December. The victim has autism, obsessive-compulsive disorder, Tourette's syndrome and is developmentally disabled.

A witness testified that Martin threw the victim to the ground, kicked and slapped him.

The Salem News reports Martin's lawyer questioned the veracity of witness testimony.
