CHARLTON, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) – Two Lowell men were arrested after leading troopers on a pursuit in a stolen minivan on the Massachusetts Turnpike in Charlton.
The pursuit began at about 12:22 p.m. Thursday when a trooper saw the minivan driving 100 to 110 mph while committing other violations on the westbound side of Route 90 in Charlton. The trooper said other cars were swerving out of the way to avoid being hit.
However, the minivan did hit another car near a maintenance site on the highway and then crashed into the median.
The driver got out and ran across three eastbound lanes, while the passenger ran across the westbound lanes. The driver ran into the rear lot of the Charlton Barracks, where he was apprehended by the station commander.
Troopers chased the passenger into the woods, and after a search, took him into custody at about 1 p.m.
The driver, 18-year-old Vini Bunted Proeung, is charged with receiving a stolen motor vehicle, negligent operating of a motor vehicle, marked lanes violation, speeding, breakdown lane violation, and unlicensed operating of a motor vehicle.
The passenger, 21-year-old Ishumael M. Kahare, is charged with receiving a stolen motor vehicle and assault and battery on a police officer.
Following an investigation, troopers found the minivan belongs to a Dracut man.
