Southie residents say packages stolen from condo complex

BOSTON -- Packages were swiped from the hall of a local condo complex in South Boston and residents say they have it all on camera.

FOX25's Jim Morelli spoke to victims of the thefts, one saying, "It's unfortunately that time of year when these things happen."

Twice this month, residents tell FOX25 packages have been stolen from a condominium lobby on E Street. Both times, the supposed thefts were caught on surveillance tape. They show a man loading multiple bags with delivered boxes.

South Boston resident Ashley Wade said, "We were more surprised that someone was able to enter a building as quickly as they did. You don't buy a new condo in the city hoping someone will pick the lock in five seconds."

Wade says residents ripped off in the past 10 days filed reports with Boston police over the weekend, although FOX25 couldn't immediately confirm that. However, we did find that this is a problem in Southie that is not just confined to one building.

"I can see how that's such an easy crime to commit," one resident said.

Alex Chaldyshev lives on West 7th Street and he's had several packages stolen from his front stoop.

Chaldyshev said, "I've been getting everything shipped to work now. And my work is cool with that. But not everyone has the opportunity to do that."

On Monday night the E Street condo building got new locks.
