QUINCY, Mass. — Another day, another dubious record for the price of a gallon of gasoline in Massachusetts which now stands at $4.30 per gallon, on average, according to AAA.
As drivers pay more, customers who rely on heating oil to warm their homes are now paying $5.02 per gallon according to the Massachusetts Department of Energy Resources.
A year ago, the average price for the home heating season was $2.87 per gallon, and the for the season, the price was $3.53, per state records.
Prices have risen as a result of the war in Ukraine and United States’ decision to ban Russian oil. Europe relies heavily on Russia for oil and gas, and the European Union recently followed America’s lead announcing plans to cut ties with Russian energy over time.
President Biden said he will do what he can to minimize oil and gas costs for Americans but there have been no significant changes that have altered the prices at this point.
