Firefighter falls through floor while battling blaze that tore through building in Arlington

ARLINGTON, Mass — A firefighter fell through the floor while battling an overnight blaze that ripped through a mixed-use building in Arlington.

Crews were called to the scene of the fire at 43 Dudley Street around 11 p.m., according to Arlington Fire Chief Kevin Kelley.

Flames were difficult to extinguish because the building housed an electrical business, a bike shop, and a machine shop.

Video from the scene showed heavy fire shooting from the building and black smoke billowing into the air as crews battled and poured water on the flames for hours.

The firefighter who went through the floor wasn’t injured and continued to work to put out the blaze. No other injuries were reported.

The building appears to be a total loss but Kelley said the fire did not damage homes in this area.

The cause of the blaze remains under investigation.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates as more information becomes available.
