Littleton bull put down after nearly a week on the run

LITTLETON, Mass. — The bull bought at an auction in Littleton about a week ago has been put down after police found it in an area with heavy traffic.

The bull went missing on Aug. 15 after escaping from a farmer's trailer at the Farmer's Livestock Auction and Market Exchange Auction.

For the next few days it was seen wandering around Littleton, Groton and Ayer.

At around 5:30 p.m on Sunday the bull was spotted standing in the middle of Great Road by Janes Drive in Littleton, the same spot he was last seen Saturday night.

The officer who responded contacted the owner, but as the bull headed back into traffic it became a safety concern. Out of concern for drivers, the officer shot the bull.

“This decision did not come lightly,” Chief King said. “Littleton Police and the bull’s owner acted out of concern for people in the neighborhood and drivers in the area.”
