List of candidates for mayor of Boston growing

BOSTON (AP) - The race for mayor of the state's largest city is getting crowded.

The latest candidates to formally announce that they are running for the seat held by Boston Mayor Thomas Menino for nearly two decades is state Rep. Martin Walsh and City Councilor Michael Ross.

Walsh and Ross join a growing list of candidates that includes Suffolk District Attorney Daniel Conley, Boston city councilors John Connolly, Rob Consalvo, and Felix Arroyo, and Bill Walczak, founder of Codman Square Health Center in the city's Dorchester neighborhood.

Menino last month told well-wishers gathered at historic Faneuil Hall that he wouldn't seek re-election to an unprecedented sixth term in office.

Menino, who used a cane to walk to the podium, has had persistent health problems including a six-week hospital stay last year to treat a respiratory infection and a compression fracture in his spine.
