Level 3 sex offender arrested near Chestnut Hill school

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) -- A Level 3 sex offender was arrested Friday after an officer observed him in front of a school on Beverly Road in Chestnut Hill, police reported.

An officer stopped a black Mitsubishi after watching the driver make an illegal left turn in front of the Baker School. After checking the driver's license and registration the officer discovered that the driver's right to operate a motor vehicle had been suspended. The vehicle belonged to the passenger, whose license had also been revoked.

The officer arrested the driver, Markie Lazell Simmons, 37, on charges of operating after suspension. He was also cited for operating after suspension, revoked registration and no left turn.

The passenger in the motor vehicle was cited for allowing an unlicensed person to operate a motor vehicle and having a revoked registration.

During the booking, police discovered that Simmons was a Level 3 sex offender out of Boston. After an investigation, police found that he was not dropping off children at the school and is not a parent of a child that attends the school. He was there to drive the adult passenger, according to police.

The investigation remains ongoing. Simmons will be arraigned Monday.
