Level 2 sex offender arrested on child rape charges in Tewksbury

TEWKSBURY, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) -- A registered Level 2 sex offender was arrested Saturday on child rape charges.

John Ryder, 36, of Tewksbury, is charged with aggravated rape, three counts of indecent assault and battery on a child under 14, and rape of a child with force.

Investigators executed a search warrant at Ryder's Whipple Road home at 2 a.m. Saturday at which time they took him into custody. Tewksbury police say Ryder was arrested hours after they began their investigation. They did not release details surrounding the investigation or the search at the home.

Ryder was registered as a Level 2 sex offender prior to his arrest. He has several similar convictions on his record, but that information was not immediately available to his neighbors.

Ryder is scheduled to be arraigned Monday in Lowell District Court.
