Leicester man arrested after allegedly climbing wire tower to steal scrap metal

LEICESTER, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) – A man was arrested Tuesday after climbing a high tension wire tower to steal scrap metal.

At about 1 p.m., a man allegedly climbed a wire tower located at the intersection of Stafford Street and Sunrise Avenue. He climbed the tower to steal a cable to scrap it, officials say.

After police arrived on the scene, they saw the man leaving in his truck. After pulling the vehicle over, the officer noticed some cable in the back of the pickup truck. The man admitted to climbing partially up the tower to steal the cable, to scrap it.

Benjamin P. Adams, 23, of Leicester was arrested and charged with larceny under $250.00 and trespassing. He is being held awaiting his release on personal recognizance.
