Lawrence man convicted in death of delivery driver

SALEM (AP) - A Lawrence man accused of killing a food delivery man has been cleared of murder, but convicted of the lesser charge of involuntary manslaughter.

Daniel Lee Lopez was convicted Friday in Salem Superior Court of involuntary manslaughter and unarmed robbery for the July 2009 death of 59-year-old Thu Nguyen of Methuen.

The Eagle-Tribune (http://bit.ly/OavcZz ) reports that Lopez faces up to 20 years in prison for the manslaughter conviction.

Prosecutors say Lopez and another man called the Evergreen Restaurant with the intent of robbing Nguyen and stealing the Chinese food. Nguyen was struck, fell to the ground and fractured his skull on the sidewalk near a low-income housing complex. He died the next day.

The other man, Ronny Ramos of Lawrence, was found not guilty of unarmed robbery and larceny.
