LAWRENCE, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) – A Lawrence city clerk was arrested for drunk driving after his car collided with another car at the intersection of South Union Street and Kent Street Wednesday night.
William J. Maloney, 56, has been charged with operating under the influence of alcohol second offense and a marked lane violation for the crash which occurred at about 8 p.m.
The driver of the other car said Maloney had been tailgating his car and flashing his lights down South Union Street. The driver allegedly went to turn down Kent Street to let Maloney pass when Maloney unexpectedly decided to brake and turn the same way.
The cars collided sending the victim's car into the porch at 534 S. Union St., police said.
When police arrived on the scene, they said Maloney appeared unsteady on his feet. A sobriety test was conducted in the field, and police said Maloney failed it.
Maloney was expected to be arraigned Thursday.
