Lawmakers debating bill that would make cheerleading interscholastic sport

BOSTON (MyFoxBoston.com) – Lawmakers in Massachusetts are debating a bill that would allow cheerleading to become an interscholastic sport in Bay State high schools.

The bill would encourage all school districts to promote equal opportunity and equal funding for cheerleaders.

If that happens, cheerleaders would have access to school-funded athletic trainers and insurance coverage during competitions.

The bill is currently in front of the Joint Committee on Education.
