Large water main break creates sink hole in Charlestown

BOSTON — A large water main break created problems in Charlestown early Tuesday morning.

It happened on Rutherford Avenue in the area of Washington Street.  A FOX25 photographer on the scene said the water could be seen flowing right into the tunnel that connects Rutherford Avenue to Route 99.

Boston police shut down the street at the Tobin Bridge on-ramp for outbound traffic. The water was turned off by the city while crews worked to fix the problem. By early Monday afternoon, the water had been turned back on for a majority of residents.

The water main break created a sink hole, which crews worked to drain throughout the morning.
