Judge delays hearing in Irish nanny case

MEDFORD, Mass. (AP) - A judge has delayed a probable cause hearing in the case of an Irish nanny accused of beating a baby who later died.

Aisling McCarthy Brady's defense lawyer on Friday argued against the postponement and her client's $500,000 bail.

Brady previously pleaded not guilty in the beating of Rehma Sabir.

The child was hospitalized with severe head injuries on her first birthday on Jan. 14, and died two days later.

Brady's lawyer says her client's been jailed for 65 days on high bail for assault, and the murder charge that prosecutors said was "imminent" wasn't filed.

But a prosecutor says there are "complex medical issues," and the state needs more time to finish the baby's autopsy before the hearing.

The judge didn't reduce bail and set the proceeding for April 22.
