Judge approves NH lottery winnings to designated trust

The New Hampshire Powerball winner's request to stay anonymous and have her winnings designated to a trust has been approved.

'Jane Doe' won more than half a billion dollars in the New Hampshire lottery recently.

She signed the back of her winning ticket - not realizing that authorized the release of her identity.

The woman filed a lawsuit in an attempt to stay anonymous - citing intense stress and concerns about her safety.

"She was very upset because she didn’t know that she lost her right of anonymity by signing the ticket," said her attorney William Shaheen.

In court, her attorneys asked the judge to allow them to cash the ticket under a trust, The Good Karma Family Trust, and white out the winners name on the back of the ticket.

On Friday, the judge announced his decision to allow the release of the funds while the legal case about self-identification works its way through the court system.

The judge says the New Hampshire Lottery Commission must search state records to ensure 'Jane Doe' does not owe any child support, and that she is an eligible ticket purchaser. After this, the Powerball winnings will be transferred to the trust account.
