Jared Remy indicted by grand jury in death of girlfriend

WOBURN, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) – Jared Remy has been indicted for the death of 27-year-old Jennifer Martel, Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan announced Tuesday.

Remy has been charged with murder, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, assault with a dangerous weapon, assault and battery, and violating a restraining order. He will be arraigned Oct. 8 in Middlesex Superior Court in Woburn.

Remy, son of broadcasting legend Jerry Remy, is accused of slamming Martel's head into a bathroom mirror during an argument on Aug. 13. Following his arrest that evening, Martel, his girlfriend and mother of his child, obtained an emergency temporary restraining order.

Two days later, police in Waltham responded to Stearns Hill Road for a report of a stabbing. Upon arrival, police found Martel suffering from multiple stab wounds. She was later pronounced dead.

Remy, who was found at the scene, is accused of stabbing her. He was taken into custody after the incident and arraigned on Aug. 16. He was held without bail.
