Investor exploring independent Mass. governor bid

BOSTON (AP) - A Boston venture capitalist is exploring an independent run for Massachusetts governor.

Jeffrey McCormick, the founder of the investment firm Saturn Partners, opened a campaign account Monday with the Office of Campaign and Political Finance, indicating he's seeking the state's top political office.

McCormick is a political newcomer, but his firm is well-known in the investment community. It helped launch companies like Boston Duck Tours and Constant Contact, an email marketing firm.

McCormick would be the second candidate with venture capital experience in the race.

Republican Charlie Baker, the former head of Harvard Pilgrim Health Care, has worked with the venture capital firm General Catalyst Partners for the past three years.

There are five Democrats running for governor. Baker is the only Republican hopeful.

Another independent candidate, Evan Falchuk, also has said he's running.
