Investigators: Hyannis woman stole donated toys, gave them to relatives

BARNSTABLE, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) – Bail was set at $500 for a Hyannis woman accused of stealing toys from her neighbors on Christmas Eve.

Janice Tully was arraigned on a charge of larceny of property over $250 after her neighbors claimed she stole donated toys that were set aside for their five children.

Investigators allege Tully drove the two victims to the Barnstable Police Department and the Independence House so they could pick up $500 worth of toys donated through the USMC Toys for Tots Foundation Program. Police claim after filling her trunk with the toys, Tully left the Independence House without the two victims and said she would give them the toys later. The victims took a taxi home.

When Tully returned home several hours later and was confronted by the victims, she told them that the toys were gone and gave several different reasons why before she went into her home.

After an investigation, police located some of the toys in Tully's trunk; however, she refused to admit where the majority of the toys were. They claim Tully gave most of the items to her own nieces and nephews.

An officer, who is also the Barnstable Police liaison to the USMC Toys for Tots Foundation, was able to give the victims additional donated toys for their five children, just in time for Christmas.
