Investigation underway to find out who was behind MIT hoax

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) – There's a list of questions to answer after a weekend hoax about a gunman at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Cambridge police received an electronic message Saturday morning, saying that a gunman was inside an MIT building on Mass Ave., but that message was fake.

Cambridge Police Commissioner Robert Haas told the Boston Herald his department is taking the incident very seriously and that if the person behind the hoax is identified, they will face criminal charges.

MIT is also investigating why it took over an hour for the university to send out an alert about the report of a gunman on campus.
