Investigation underway to determine cause of massive Methuen fire

METHUEN, Mass. — Fire investigators are expected in Methuen Thursday morning to try and figure out what sparked a massive blaze that left one person injured.

Boston 25 News learned one woman was taken to a hospital as the fire raged Wednesday night. She was then airlifted to a Boston hospital due to burns in her airway.

A firefighter was also taken to a hospital to be treated for exhaustion.

Other people who lived inside the home near the intersection of Broadway and High Street said they lost everything.

Boston 25 News was at the scene as the fire was starting and before most of the firefighters arrived.

At that time, neighbors said they weren’t sure if everyone had made it out of the burning structure safely.

Crews were able to extinguish the fire by about 10 p.m., an hour after it started.

Firefighters said the flames were able to spread quickly throughout the home through the attic because of the balloon frame construction. It’s unknown if the home had working smoke detectors at the time of the fire.
