Investigation launched after fire at vacant Tewksbury home

Investigators are trying to determine the cause of a fire that ripped through a vacant home in Tewksbury Wednesday night.

Few details have been released, but officials said smoke and flames could be seen pouring from the Woodland Drive home when first responders arrived

They worked to extinguish the flames, but the home was destroyed.

Officials said police had been at the home earlier in the day Wednesday while the tenants were being evicted. Hours later the home burned to the ground.

"Two calls came into 911 that there were explosions at the residence," Tewksbury Fire Chief Michael Hazel said. "The house was in the process of being vacated (Wednesday), so there was nobody in the house at the time of the fire."

The cause of the fire has not been determined to be arson, but Hazel told FOX25 that the circumstances surrounding the blaze will be investigated.

No injuries were reported.
