Investigation continues after truck kills woman trying to cross Lowell street

LOWELL, Mass. — The investigation continues Thursday after a pedestrian was hit by a truck and killed in a busy Lowell intersection Wednesday afternoon.

“We’re (going to) need paramedics and a box. We’re (going to) need, ah, right at the corner of French and Bridge street. A lady just got ran over by a truck,” police are heard saying on the radio.

After that call, police quickly blocked off the intersection before 5 p.m. Wednesday.

Several people reported witnessing the graphic incident.

“I see part of her body on the ground,” Juan Carlos said. “That’s not easy to see that.”

"A 72-year-old lady, approximately, she got clipped by a car, did a 360, then the truck ran her over," witness Steve Trzcinski said.

A statement from the Middlesex County District Attorney’s Office didn’t mention a second vehicle, though. Only a tractor-trailer.

Trzcinski said he wishes he could have done more to help save the woman’s life.

“I went to try and save her, but there was no saving,” he said.

Police spent hours investigating at the scene, and cleared the area around 8 p.m.

The victim has not yet been identified and no charges have been filed.
