Inmate found dead at South Bay House of Correction

BOSTON (AP) — The Suffolk County Sheriff's Department has released the name of an inmate killed by another prisoner at a Boston jail.

The department said Monday that 25-year-old inmate Alexander Callahan was transported from the South Bay House of Correction to Boston Medical Center on Sunday where he was pronounced dead at about 5:30 p.m. following an altercation with another inmate.

Callahan had started serving a sentence in early October for assault and battery and drug convictions. He was scheduled to be released on June 7.

The sheriff's department and Boston police are investigating.

The other inmate's name has not been disclosed and there was no word on charges.
