Injured Boy Scout rescued from Mt. Washington hiking trail

THOMPSON and MESERVES PURCHASE, N.H. — A 16-year-old Boy Scout needed to be rescued from off a hiking trail in New Hampshire after suffering a leg injury.

The hiker, who was identified as 16-year-old Ian Lee, of Albion, Michigan, was injured around 11:30 a.m. while crossing the Cog Railroad tracks on the Gulfside Trail in Thompson and Meserves Purchase.

Since it was still early in the day, he decided to keep walking and make it off the mountain on his own.

But after nearly 11 hours of hiking and still more than a mile from the Base Station parking lot, the decision was made to call 911 for help.

After first responders located Lee it was determined he could continue the rest of the way on his own. Lee and the rescue team made it to the base around 2:30 a.m.

Lee and the Boy Scout troop had taken the Cog Railway to the summit of Mt. Washington and were hiking back when the injury occurred.
