Illegal immigrant accused in fatal drunk driving crash to appear in court

WORCESTER, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) – An illegal immigrant who is accused of killing a 23-year-old Milford man will appear in court for a competency hearing Friday.

Nicolas Guaman is accused of being drunk behind the wheel of a pickup truck when he hit Matthew Denice and dragged him several hundred feet in Aug. 2011. Denice was killed in the incident.

In April, a judge ruled that Guaman wasn't competent to stand trial because he speaks a very rare Central American language and didn't understand the court process.

The judge ordered Guaman's attorney to find an interpreter and educate him on the court process.

Guaman, 34, has pleaded not guilty to second-degree murder charges in connection with Denice's death.

He will appear in Worcester Superior Court Friday morning.
