'I thought I was literally dead': Telephone pole rips into Brockton woman's car

BROCKTON, Mass. — A local mother still can’t believe she survived a horrific crash, in which a telephone pole ripped through her car.

Emily Dely was delivering newspapers along North Montello Street in Brockton when another driver veered into her lane and hit a telephone pole.

The telephone pole sliced right through the metal roof of her car and hit Dely's head.

“I thought I was literally dead,” she said. “I thought this was fake, this was me looking at this above it was an out of body experience feeling. I felt like this can't be real by looking at the car.”

Metal staples are now helping Dely's scalp heal and she told us she believes a guardian angel saved her life.

She said she believes it was her daughters’ father, who died last May.

“I felt like he was in that car that night with me. I just feel like he was there that he made sure I was okay because he knew they can't be without two parents. They need me,” she explained.

Dely supports her daughters by delivering newspapers seven days a week. But because of potential brain damage, she's had to temporarily surrender her driver’s license.

“I lived paycheck to paycheck before everything and now, there is no paycheck coming in right now and I don't know when we'll get another right now,” said Dely.

According to Dely, police say the other driver fell asleep before crashing and was not injured.

Emily says she knows her physical injuries will heal eventually, but she isn't sure about her emotional ones. She says she's just grateful for the support of her friends and family.

A GoFundMe page has been set up to help with her finances.
