Hyannis endured blizzard conditions for more than 10 hours

HYANNIS, Mass. — The third nor'easter in two weeks dumped up to 23 inches of snow across some parts of metro west, but it also brought blizzard conditions across eastern Massachusetts.

The definition of a blizzard is drifting or blowing snow, visibility of less than ¼ of a mile and sustained winds of up to 35 miles per hour or more. Those conditions must also last for three hours.

On Monday, those conditions lasted for well over three hours across many parts of the coast.

Hyannis endured blizzard conditions for 10 and a half hours.

According to the National Weather Service, here are the towns that had sustained blizzard conditions for over three hours:

  • Hyannis, MA -- 10 hours, 35 Minutes; from 7:30 a.m. to 6:05 p.m.
  • Marshfield, MA -- 9 hours; rom 8:55 a.m. to 5:55 p.m.
  • Falmouth, MA -- 8 hours, 40 Minutes; from 7:15 a.m. to 10:55 a.m. and from 11:55 a.m. to 4:55 p.m.
  • Martha's Vineyard, MA -- 8 hours, 22 minutes; from 8:00 a.m. to approximately 4:22 p.m.
  • Boston, MA -- 6 hours; from 8:40 a.m. to 2:40 p.m.
  • Newport, RI -- 4 hours, 20 Minutes; from 8:50 a.m. to 1:10 p.m.
