Hundreds gather in Boston for interfaith discussion

BOSTON — Boston Mayor Marty Walsh and Sen. Elizabeth Warren were among hundreds who showed up to talk through a turbulent election season Sunday night.

People from all backgrounds discussed their concerns, from a college student and DREAM Act recipient concerned about being deported, to a Muslim woman worried about a rise in bigotry and hate.

“And a lot of people in my immigrant community are also at risk of deportations,” said Rodrigo Saavedra, a DREAM act recipient.

“I noticed a woman walking toward me.  Out of nowhere she punched a water bottle I was holding next to my chest. I was shocked and terrified,” said Shamso Ahmed.

The goal of the gathering was to seek healing following a divisive election and to push for dignity and accountability moving forward.

Boston Interfaith Organization organized the event.

“Boston is a great city and were going to continue to stand with people not just in, our city but across the country,” said Walsh.

Support from Donald Trump's most vocal critic, Sen. Warren.

“I'm very concerned about how Donald trump is defining his administration with the people he's picking to lead this country,” she said.

Event organizers called for a renewed pledge from community members and elected officials to vigorously challenge all forms of bigotry and bullying.
