How to help people displaced by Cambridge fire

CAMRBIDGE, Mass. — Hundreds are homeless Saturday night as Cambridge firefighters try to get a massive fire under control.

The fire has damaged about 10 buildings, most of which were low-income housing, near Berkshire and Vandine Street. Many other neighboring buildings have also been evacuated for precaution.

The Red Cross is helping and a shelter has been set up at Cambridge High School and War Memorial Center. Anyone who needs help or a place to sleep is welcome to go there.

The Cambridge Mayor Denise Simmons said for those who want to help victims, she asked that people wait to donate clothes and other material goods for now.

Instead, she said people can make a donation to the Mayor's Fire Relief Fund.
