How firefighters train for water rescues

Local rescuers said this time of year is when they get concerned about people being trapped by floods.

Firefighters from around the area spent Wednesday training for the real thing, and FOX25’s Blair Miller went along.

Braving the wind and the rain, firefighters practiced rescuing people from water in different scenarios, including a boat.

“One of the up and coming dangers that we face is urban flooding so we're out here training today to learn some of the obstacles and challenges that we deal with in an urban setting,” said Steve Capuccio with the Cambridge Fire Department.

Firefighters reviewed how to save someone if caught in swift water. They've also been working more advanced scenarios, like when someone is in a boat that is taking on water.
