House ratifies contract for Taunton casino in 120-32 vote

BOSTON (FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) – It's the state Senate's turn to weigh in on plans for a gambling resort in Taunton.

Lawmakers are set to vote on the casino compact with the Mashpee Wampanoags Thursday.

The House voted 120 to 32 on Wednesday to ratify the agreement. The "No" votes came largely from representatives from southeastern Massachusetts. They wanted to add measures to ensure the project receives federal funding and doesn't fall behind other casino developments in the state.

Under the deal, the state will get 21.55 percent of the gambling revenue from what is expected to be a $500 million resort.
