Homeowner uninjured after van crashes through house

MALDEN, Mass. — A Malden man is breathing a sigh of relief after a van crashed into his home, but didn’t injure anyone inside.

Police said the driver of the van lost control on Central Avenue, possibly because of the wet surface, and crashed into the front of Joe Chapman’s home on Salem Street.

“I heard this explosion, and this piece of door frame came flying into the refrigerator,” Chapman said.

It was a close call, and could have been much worse.

“If I had taken one step, that would've been my final one,” he said.

Construction crews boarded up the house, but the damage will take some time to fully repair.

The driver and a passenger in the van were taken to the hospital but are expected to be OK.
