Homeless man shot by police in Plymouth

PLYMOUTH, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) – A man was shot in the torso by a police officer in Plymouth Thursday.

At about 5:45 p.m., police responded to downtown Plymouth for the report of a man making suicidal statements, officials say. When police found the 50-year-old homeless man, he confronted them with a knife and continued to make suicidal statements.

When he lunged at one of the officers with the knife, the officer discharged his weapon and hit the man once in the torso. The man was transported to the hospital, officials say. He is in stable condition.

The man will be charged with assault by means of a dangerous weapon on a police officer. The officer was placed on paid administrative leave while the incident is under investigation.
